ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
Cleaning Up San Diego
Martin Marietta crews from across San Diego cleaned up trash in Otay Valley Regional Park in the mid-spring. Although
these colleagues only joined Martin Marietta through acquisition in 2021, they quickly adopted the Martin Marietta
culture of giving back to their local communities.
A crew of 14 volunteers from several local Martin Marietta teams took to the park to pick up litter and debris, collecting
roughly 25 large bags of trash. The 200-acre park is one of the major open spaces in southern San Diego County and
includes playing fields, picnic areas, hiking trails, biking routes and horse trails as well as sites for wildlife, historic research,
and agricultural and archaeological endeavors.
“I often drive through the area and took notice of the trash in the park, which compelled me to take action,” said Cortes
Macachor, operations support manager. “I chose to coordinate this event in partnership with the City of San Diego Park
Rangers because it is important for us, as a company, to display stewardship of the land surrounding our Hollister Recycle
site. This was an excellent way for us to demonstrate to the community our efforts to improve the area.”
