For Martin Marietta, safety performance sets our foundation for long-term financial strength and successful
SOAR execution. Simply said, a safe operation is a profitable one. All awards are meaningful, but it is particularly
satisfying when we are recognized for achievement of one of our core values.
Our Employees
Martin Marietta’s diverse, engaged and dedicated workforce is our greatest asset, and the continuing well-being of our
employees is critically important for our success. We are committed to providing all employees with the programs,
resources, support and opportunity necessary to grow. We strive to create safe, healthy, diverse and highly engaging
workplaces and hope that our decisions in this area will extend far beyond our business, positively affecting people and
communities for generations to come.
Keeping employees safe and healthy through the second year of the pandemic was a critically important focus area in
2021. We provided relevant, timely communications about the evolving situation and engaged in a Company-wide
vaccination campaign. Our ongoing COVID-19 protocols allowed us to stay resilient and minimize the impact of COVID-19
on our employees and operations.
During 2021, we continued to enhance our competitive offering of employee health,
welfare and retirement benefits, including a fully funded defined benefit pension
plan, and successfully transitioned our 401(k) retirement plan to a new recordkeeper
offering enhanced financial planning resources for employees. We also launched an
online awards platform, ONE Rewards & Recognition, to consolidate multiple award
types (including safety and service awards) into a streamlined, point-based system.
Through these important efforts in 2021 and many more, we continued to build a
compelling connection with current and potential employees, increase the visibility
and attractiveness of Martin Marietta as an employer of choice to strengthen our
talent pipeline, and increase employee engagement, morale and retention.
Importantly, we continued the efforts of our Inclusion and Engagement Task Force in 2021, collecting feedback from
leaders and groups across the enterprise about opportunities to strengthen our culture relative to diversity, inclusion and
employee engagement. This group, co-chaired by our Chairman and CEO and our Chief Human Resources Officer, is
focused on ensuring that our culture is consistently welcoming to all current and future employees, as well as open to new
and diverse thought. We believe that employee engagement happens when we bring together exceptional and diverse
talent with different backgrounds, genders, ethnicities, qualifications, perspectives, experiences, voices and skills to ensure
